Players who are terrified of Grounded's spiders now have yet another reason to be scared, as the latest update adds a brand new spider-type, the Broodmother. OK, first things first, there are two kinds of big spider in Grounded - the Orb Weaver and the Wolf Spider - and one kind of small spider, the Recluse, which is easy to kill so we'll disregard it. The main exception to this rule is found in the ant-mimicking genus Micaria. The goliath spiders in Grounded are both horrific and inescapable, with water spiders making their debut last year. Generally, ground spiders are characterized by having barrel-shaped anterior spinnerets that are one spinneret diameter apart. The enemies players face in Grounded are widely considered to be one of its biggest draws, but equally, one of its biggest deterrents. Examples given of the type of achievements gamers will have to complete again include killing a wolf spider and item crafting. Unfortunately for achievement hunters who have previously played through Grounded and completed the achievement tasks, they will have to re-complete a handful to unlock them. The Grounded website adds an important note with regards to attaining some of Grounded's hardest achievements. However, more achievements are expected to be added in future updates. Most of these achievements are things players are likely to complete incidentally, like constructing one mushroom-brick building. This has now changed, however, as Obsidian Entertainment has added 20 achievements to the game on all platforms. One of these features that raised a few eyebrows was the absence of achievements. Players can also build curved walls, allowing for some more interestingly shaped structures, while new roof types and pillars will also add more depth to the building aspect of the game.Īs Grounded launched as an early access game, a handful of features players might expect from the game were missing. Building pieces can now be flipped to better fit the player base, allowing players to flip individual objects rather than rearrange their building to accommodate. A host of new options outside of the mushroom castles are now available to the player. The oven and grinder are key elements that players will need to master in order to enjoy much of what the update has to offer.īuilding in Grounded is set to be a lot more fleshed out with the latest update. Once a mushroom slurry has been crafted, the oven is able to turn this slurry into the mushroom bricks shown off in the trailer. It can also be used to craft the plant slurry players need to attract the previously mentioned pets. The grinder, as the name suggests, grinds the mushrooms into a cement-like slurry. Polygon has reached out the Microsoft for more details about how that research was conducted. The player needs to spend some time transforming mushrooms into building materials, though, which is where the grinder and oven enter the equation. ![]() According to a video posted to YouTube on Monday, Obsidian worked with the Microsoft User Research Lab to find a good solution for players. The mode also removes all the chittering and squeaking usually ascribed to video game spiders. One green orb (the abdomen, if memory serves) and another gray orb for the head. This is a visual-only setting that does not affect gameplay or difficulty.” “If you’re super not okay with that, you can enable Arachnophobia Safe Mode in the Accessibility options. ![]() “This game contains spiders that are often much larger than the player,” the warning says. If this is how you want to play the game, then the bee armor set is perfect for you. ![]() Here’s how it works.īooting up the game for the first time, players are immediately shown a warning about the game’s eight-legged content. Grounded is a dangerous survival game, and as such, you may want to fight certain enemies from a distance, such as spiders. ![]() To make the game palatable for those who suffer from arachnophobia, developers have opted for a unique solution: A slider that dials back how spider-like the game’s spiders actually are. The game shrinks players down until they’re smaller than a pebble, bringing them face-to-face with all manner of beasts. Obsidian Entertainment launched a 30-minute demo for Grounded on Tuesday.
